Alta Vista is a quiet but vibrant community for independent living, offering a lifestyle of connection and continued spiritual growth. Residents – retired and still working – come from diverse backgrounds and have varied interests. But all share the practice of Christian Science in common. 

Set on a calm palm-shaded campus full of flowering plants and citrus trees (yes, you can pick and eat our fruit most of the year!),  Alta Vista is both a cozy and caring retreat as well as a base of operation for an active lifestyle.  We are situated in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara – a historic Mediterranean-style city of white stucco and red-tile roofs set between the dramatic Santa Ynez Mountains and vast Pacific Ocean views.

Residents find friendship here, and something for every affinity. We are just a 90-minute drive from Los Angeles, but steps from our own vibrant business district of restaurants and shops, theaters, historic sites, parks, theaters, museums, concert halls, libraries, colleges, beaches and mountain hiking trails.

A Christian Science church and reading room are each within walking distance.

Alta Vista’s clubhouse living room and kitchen, patio niches, dog walking area, and green lawns are an extension of individual apartments – comfortable for individual activities or gathering spots for barbecues, conversation, and games.
